2012 Days of Caring
Learning to lend a helping hand.
The United Way partners with local high schools and area businesses to sponsor Student Day of Caring. This annual event matches student volunteer groups with work projects at local sites in Southern Kennebec Valley. Students take pride in giving their time and talents to important projects, and their efforts improve our communities. Day of Caring demonstrates that volunteering truly brings out the best in all of us.
Students, local business sponsors, and the United Way all work together to lend a helping hand. We are proud of our local high school students and the community spirit they demonstrate through Day of Caring activities.

How LVA Helped Charlie
Charlie worked for American Airlines for 35 years. In this time he received numerous letters of recognition for his hard work. But Charlie was never able to read them. His education was cut short and this basic skill was one he did without until he was 55 years old. Thanks to Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta, Charlie can now read all those letters from AA.
