How Many People Ask for Help?

The amount of people served in the Kennebec Valley region is in the thousands.  People from all walks of life and in all different types of situations ask for assistance from United Way supported programs.

The United Way can supply you with any facts or numbers of those served from any of our agencies.  Rest assured, unless otherwise designated to a different community, your dollars are used locally to support your local friends and neighbors.

The programs we support are not just programs for the economically challenged.  They are in place to give the support everyone may need during any time of crisis.

Work Boots
I received a call from a man who had recently secured a job with a reputable drywall company. Since he had no money and only the clothes on his back, he needed to purchase steel toe boots, work pants and work shirts in order to begin work. With money donated through United Way to Goodwill, they were able to purchase what he needed to get him started at work. When he asked if he could repay the money with his first paycheck, they asked that he simply remember where the money came from and when he was able, to give to his United Way through payroll deduction so we could continue to help others in his situation.
