2010 United Way Campaign Chairs
As longtime supporters of the United Way, we
feel honored to be this year's Campaign Chairs.
We have lived, worked and raised our family in
the Kennebec Valley for over 20 years. There are
so many generous and thoughtful people in our
community whom we consider ourselves truly
lucky to have met.
Roy Hussey is one of these people.
Roy's story is one of commitment and public
service that began the day he left on the train to
serve his country in World War II. Even today,
his contributions are applied by the numerous
Kennebec Valley residents who work to improve
the lives of others.
Roy served his country, operated a very successful
local business, and has faithfully contributed to
the United Way for over fi fty years.
He has inspired us with his belief that we
all share the responsibility to support our
community when the need arises.
Roy has amazed us, as have so many of you,
with his enduring generosity. We are humbled
by wonderful people like Roy Hussey, who are
committed to helping those in need. From the
volunteers at the Bread of Life Shelter to those at
Literacy Volunteers, it is truly inspiring to know
that our Leadership contribution is helping so
many people.
We can all follow Roy's example by supporting
our United Way, which funds fi fty-one programs
in Kennebec Valley. Our Leadership Circle
donations are critical to reaching the goal of
helping every family and individual in need.
If you have given in the past, we are most
grateful. In recent years, nearly half our annual
goal has been met by contributions at the
Leadership Circle level. This year, we invite you
to join the Leadership Circle by donating six
hundred dollars or more annually.
If Roy's example inspires you the way it has
inspired both of us, we're confi dent the United
Way of Kennebec Valley can rely on your
support.

It is easy to do, and is a great benefit to offer your employees!
We will make it easy for you to be one of the ordinary people creating extraordinary results!
Ordinary People. Extraordinary Results!
A young man staying at the homeless shelter was referred to me by his case manager. We were able to assist with getting him a full time job that paid $8 an hour. The job was quite a distance from where he lived in Augusta. We researched ways to get to and from work. Carpooling was not an option as none of the company’s employees traveled from Augusta to the work location, cab fare was $30 one way, and the distance to walk to work was too far though he was willing to do so. Through the fund provided by United Way and Green St. Church we were able to purchase a bicycle from a local bike shop at the cost of $178.48.-
