2011 United Way Campaign Chairs
It is important to me to be a part of my community in a productive way. United Way is a place where I can donate and volunteer and give back to the community that has supported our family and business. I like that because the United Way works with so many agencies that I feel my dollar reaches a lot of needs. As a parent, I want to set an example for my children to become a part of their community. The United Way has volunteer opportunities for a wide range of ages and makes it easy for them to donate through payroll deduction. - Janet Parkhurst
The United Way is important to me for many reasons. The Day of Caring experience is teaching young people the importance of community service. The fund raising and the allocations process of the United Way provides much needed financial support to those agencies and individuals most in need. The United Way is the conduit which brings companies, professionals, and individuals together to work toward the common goal of contributing to a better community. The United Way is the common link between those who need help and those who can help. - Richard Parkhurst
Participation in community is why I volunteer my time and donate financially to United Way. As a community it’s important to remember we’re all in this together and that means getting support when you need it but also giving when you’re able. - Glenn Parkhurst
For me the United Way is about being a part of a community. It's a way that for just a few follars out of my paycheck I can help make the Kennebec Valley a better place to live. I like that through the Allocations process we have a way of seeing where our dollars are needed, and have the opportunity to put them in the places that will do the most good. - Tobias Parkhurst
I am blessed to be a part of the United Way as a volunteer, a donor, and an employee. Volunteering, donating, and being enthusiastic about a goal for the betterment of the community is my way to give back. It is our responsibility to convey a message to young people about volunteerism and the true meaning of a role model. Everyone is a role model, some choose to utilize that positively and some do not. We are all capable of influencing and impacting someone's life. The United Way is the perfect organization to pursue that goal with. - Soo Parkhurst
