Leadership Circle
As a United Way Board Member and Campaign
Chair in 1987, I remember well the thoughtful
discussions which led to the founding of the
Leadership Circle. Now, 23 years later, there
are over 330 Leadership Circle members who
provide almost 50% of United Way's total
support annually. This generosity to local people
in need is most impressive, and we can take
pride in all that we accomplish together. The
Leadership Circle is an effi cient vehicle for any
individual to make a personal gift to support
so much good work done by the 51 programs
funded by United Way.
With our help United Way also responds to
community needs with initiatives like the
Emergency Home Heating Fund, the ‘211'
information and referral system that answered
5,920 calls in 2009, and last winter's Community
Warming Center.
Students in eight local schools participate
annually with United Way in Day of Caring
activities, taking pride in working together to
complete community projects. As a community
volunteer myself, I'm glad to see young people
encouraged to develop the volunteer spirit which
will serve Kennebec Valley communities far into
the future.
I know that my Leadership Circle gift each
year combines with others in making a strong
community investment. Thank you for joining
me in supporting United Way.
